In our August 2026 test, one workstation photo kept its 1086 × 1448 dimensions at a 100KB target and finished at 93,130 bytes. At 50KB it shrank to 923 × 1231, with softer fine detail. Your image may behave differently.

Choose a maximum size in KB. The tool searches JPEG or WebP encoding settings and can reduce dimensions when allowed. Successful results are at or below the target, not necessarily exactly that size. Some combinations cannot fit, especially with Preserve dimensions enabled. One KB here means 1,024 bytes.
Image contents and filenames stay in your browser during compression. The website still makes normal network requests to load its pages and assets. Optional Analytics runs only with your consent and excludes your images and filenames. Local processing does not eliminate every risk associated with your device or browser.
Select JPG/JPEG, PNG, WebP, BMP or GIF up to 50MB. Output is JPEG or WebP. Animated GIFs become still images; JPEG cannot preserve transparency. HEIC and HEIF are not supported: export a JPEG copy on your device first.
Use the format accepted by your destination. JPEG is a practical default for many forms and applications, including modern portals that do not accept WebP. WebP can make smaller files, but savings vary by image and encoder settings. Compare the result rather than assuming a fixed percentage improvement.
Read the form’s current instructions for file size, format, pixel dimensions, aspect ratio and background. Crop or resize in an editor first if needed, then compress and inspect the download. Meeting the KB limit alone does not guarantee acceptance. If the portal uses decimal KB, choose a slightly smaller target and check the final bytes.
JPEG and the WebP output used here are lossy. Small targets can soften text, faces and fine detail, and may require smaller dimensions. Start with the largest size the destination permits and inspect the before-and-after preview and downloaded file. The quality indicator estimates encoder settings; it is not an independent visual-quality measurement.

You can use the original if its format and dimensions meet your destination’s rules. The tool will tell you that it is already below the ceiling. Choose a smaller target only if you need a smaller copy; this tool does not pad files to meet a minimum file size.
It keeps the original width and height while adjusting encoding quality. It does not crop or resize to a different required shape. A small target can mean stronger quality loss or no result if the image cannot fit. Turn it off only when the destination permits smaller dimensions.
